Tifway 419 Bermuda is an improved hybrid Bermuda grass developed from the famed Tifton, Georgia turf breeding program. This hybrid Bermuda is more aggressive than Tifgreen and holds its color longer going into the winter months. Tifway 419 Bermuda is a very dense and fine textured Bermuda grass. It is low growing and spreads rapidly. The density, fine texture and soft blades of Tifway 419 Bermuda grass provide a soft cushion on which to walk and play. WATERING TIFWAY 419 BERMUDA: Apply 0.5-1 inch of water to Tifway 419 Bermuda in a single application about once per week during hot and dry conditions. To promote a deep, durable root system, deep soaking water applications are preferred over short and frequent shallow watering applications. Caution against dry winter freezing of Tifway 419 Bermuda grass.
For a high quality appearance keep Tifway 419 Bermuda mowed between heights of 1¼ and 3¼ inches. Mow regularly with a reel or rotary mower allowing clippings to remain on the lawn. Irregular mowing practices may result in high buildups of thatch, which will require verticutting, mulching, and or removal. We suggest not removing more than 1/3 of the Tifway 419 Bermuda leaf growth during a single mowing.
Weed growth competes with Tifway 419 Bermuda turf growth. Good lawn maintenance practices of this soft grass help eliminate weed problems. However, it may be necessary even under the best lawn care, to apply herbicides to maintain weed free Tifway 419 Bermuda.
To maintain its beauty, color, and density, Tifway 419 Bermuda requires a consistent monthly fertilization program. During the spring, summer, and fall months it should be fertilized with 3/4 to 1 pound of nitrogen applied to each 1,000 square feet of lawn. Read and follow all instructions regarding fertilizer use and application to Tifway 419 Bermuda.
