Empire Zoysia is a Brazilian zoysia japonica that offers landscapers, golf course designers, sportsturf managers and homeowners exceptional performance with low maintenance across a wide spectrum of applications. Empire Zoysia is a blue-green turfgrass that has a wider blade than most other zoysias (slightly broader than Meyer Zoysia) and grows in a wide variety of soil and climate conditions.
Empire Zoysia is a slow growing grass and needs to be mowed weekly throughout its growing season. Mowing height may vary between 1 and 2 inches depending on preference. Never cut more than 1/3 of the total length of the blade at any one mowing. Always remove grass clippings from Empire Zoysia or use a mulching mower.
Fertilize Empire Zoysia every month during the warm season. Make the first application in the spring when your lawn begins to recover from dormancy. During the warm growing season (March-November) the amount of clippings generated when mowing will be a "tip-off" to your lawn's fertilizer needs. If you find there are fewer clippings than when previously mowing, your lawn has slowed its growth and fertilizer is probably necessary.
Empire Zoysia is highly resistant to insects and diseases. Generally, water and fertilizer will help Empire Zoysia outgrow any pests.
